Should You Lose Weight For Your Appearance Or For Your Health?


Most folks decide to begin dieting because they want to look better. They may have recently watched the Emmys and seen all their favorite actresses in those skimpy dresses and began to feel a bit uncomfortable. Or maybe you have seen those late night commercials telling you how you too can have the body of your dreams and you just know that the testimonials are given by paid actors.

Certainly, losing a few pounds results in a trimmer and slimmer looking you. However your commitment to losing weight should be for your health, not just your physical appearance. When you are feeling good, you are looking good, too.

You may be extremely pleased at how much better you will begin to feel, both physically as well as mentally, after you slim down. Tackling a flight of stairs or strolling around the mall is not going to leave you breathless any longer. Having fun with your children in the park is going to be a joy that is not going to wear you out. You'll find yourself with more vitality to enable you to do what you want to do, and you'll also have a ton more fun doing it!

Maintaining your weight at healthy levels is clearly crucial for solid health. Going on and off and on and off a diet is a habit that usually results from attempting to slim down for reasons of appearance, not health. These yo-yo type diet patterns are the result of so-called speedy weight loss fad diets and gimmicks that have you dropping a few pounds and then putting them right back on again and then some.

If you repeatedly lose weight and gain it back, then perhaps you might want to start changing your focus towards maintaining a healthy weight. It is the long term approach that will give you the most consistent and permanent results.

Thinking long-term when it comes to weight loss comes down to a matter of one's perspective and attitude. You may have spent tons in the past on books and programs promising you quick and easy weight loss. But here you are again still looking for answers. My contention is that we don't gain weight overnight and we are not going to lose weight overnight either.

The weight loss industry is constructed on the notion that weight loss plans are unsuccessful. Why else would we have to have more than one program on the subject of weight loss?

Most weight loss programs promise results that they can't produce, due to the fact their principles of dieting are centered on the short-term. However, folks who are successful at losing weight and keeping it off for the long haul, first consider the long-term. I encourage you to shift your focus to weight reduction approaches that teach you a lifestyle as opposed to a quick fix.
